Meet the Coordinator
My name is Morgan May, and I am a senior at Helena High School. As a Red Cross certified Water Safety Instructor (WSI), lifeguard, and someone with a lifelong passion for swimming, I wanted to create a day dedicated to sharing my knowledge and skills with anyone interested in learning about water safety as part of my Girl Scout Gold Award Project.
As a competitive swimmer for the past 10 years, a Water Safety Instructor for two years, an Instructor's Assistant for three years, and a lifeguard for the past year, I have experienced firsthand the importance of water safety from many different perspectives. These experiences have shown me how essential it is for people of all ages to have the knowledge and confidence to respond safely in and around water.
Through this Water Safety Awareness Day, my goal is to provide participants with basic water safety knowledge and practical skills that can help them recognize potential hazards, respond appropriately in emergency situations, and feel more confident when in or around the water. By sharing these fundamental skills, I hope to make our community safer and empower participants with the knowledge and confidence to stay safe.
Feel free to spread the word to friends, families, and neighbors in our community who can enjoy and benefit from this event. Water safety is important for all of us in our Montana backyard of lakes, rivers, streams, swimming pools, and more. I hope you can join us!
